Monticello Academy hosted our first robotics scrimmage for the community on Saturday, October 13th and it was a huge success. We have seven other teams around the Bay Area joined us. Robotics students described the experience was intense, realistic and eye-opening. Each student learned something new and how to better prepare for the upcoming qualifying tournament on Sunday, November 4th. Big shout-out to parents, alumni, and administrators for being there to volunteer and support our students.

The Taekwondo Poomsae Seminar that was held on Saturday, September 22 was a great experience for our athletes.  Each participant learned something new in their taekwondo training.  This seminar was held by US Poomsae Team Coach and World Championship medalist, Master Barbara Brand at the Monticello Academy Lochinvar Campus for our intermediate and advanced students.  Athletes received great one-on-one training, helped improve their flexibility as well as various other techniques such as stances, strikes, and kicks.  Big thank you to Master Brand for making the trip out here and sharing her knowledge with our athletes!

On Saturday, April 21st, Monticello Academy held its 35th Taekwondo Promotion Ceremony.  Many of our taekwondo students promoted to their new rank.  They have worked very hard this year and trained regularly to prepare themselves for that test.  Their hard work and effort paid off as they are now continuing their training in their new rank and gaining new knowledge along the way.  We are so proud of each of them and wish them the best of luck as they continue!

Every year we depend on successful fundraisers to provide funds necessary to continue offering the best educational opportunities for our school. This year, we hope to fund our current online library subscriptions, new library books, and new computers.

We would like to inform you about our plan for this year and ask for your help. Each child is being asked to participate in our annual Read-A-Thon Event.  This fundraising event will be done in-class for the week of April 16th-April 27th.  To ensure the success of our fundraising event to hopefully reach at least $15,000 or more, here is what you can do:

  1. Pledge for your child.
  2. If possible, pledge a minimum of $30.00 per child or more. The more that you pledge, the more we can exceed our goal.
  3. At the end of the event, whatever amount they earn, help them pick a prize as a reward for their effort.

With your continued support and generous donations, our school will be able to further enhance our children's education for the 21st century. To show our appreciation for the children's participation, there will be an awards assembly to thank all the children who participated as well as those that read and sell the most.  I'm looking forward to working with you and your child during the fundraising event.  Please contact me at library@monticelloacademy.org for further details about the fundraiser. Thank you for making a difference in our children's lives.

The Internet is a double-edged sword. It is a place with many resources, but it is also a place used by individuals who harass, mistreat, and hurt others. As a result, screen time, cyberbullying and digital conflicts that occur when using these resources can be both confusing and worrying.

Recently, Monticello Academy became a Common Sense School, which demonstrates our dedication and commitment to teaching our students how to be safe and responsible digital citizens. As a school community, we would like to share our resources to help you, our parents, address these important issues, and have meaningful conversations about making positive choices in their digital lives. In this 90-minute workshop, we will cover topics of screen time concerns and strategies to stop cyberbullying, deal with haters and trolls, and learn more about social media rules. We will also share how it aligns with students’ academic, Monticello Academy student lifelong skills and K-8 Computer Technology curriculum.

Please RSVP no later than April 18, 2018.

Title: Digital Citizenship - Screen Time, Cyberbullying and Digital Conflict Resolution
Date: Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

We are excited to announce we will be beginning the Box Tops program. Box Tops are small logos that can be found on the packaging of many common, everyday products such as Ziploc bags and cereal boxes. They are absolutely free to obtain and can be redeemed as a fundraiser for schools and charities.

Here’s how you can get involved!  After collecting one or more Box Tops, your child should submit the Box Top(s) in his or her class. Please make sure that the expiration date is at least six months from the time of submission. A class sheet will be posted onto the wall, and the student should tape this or her Box Top(s) onto one of the empty spaces. He or she would then write his or her name and the number of Box Tops contributed on a separate sheet next to the Box Tops sheet. When an entire sheet is completely filled, the contributors will be given a lollipop as a reward. At the end of the year, the class that submits the most Box Tops will receive a movie party with treats, hosted by MASG. Images of a Box Tops sheet and a sheet of contributors will be linked down below.

Once again, thank you for all of your support, and we are very excited to be beginning the Box Tops program!
